Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level III NICU position requiring 2+ years of neonatal ICU experience, active NJ or Compact RN licensure, and Epic proficiency.

Details

  • Level III NICU within a large quaternary care teaching hospital and regional perinatal center
  • Cares for neonates at 29–34 weeks and >34 weeks gestational age, including neonatal abstinence syndrome and neurologic cases
  • Patient ratios of 1:1–3 in the NICU and 1:4 in the Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU)
  • Travelers will not be assigned to high-risk deliveries or Level IV patients, ECMO cases, or fresh post-ops
  • Charting in Epic (required) and Crib Notes
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
  • Every other weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday), subject to adjustment based on unit needs
  • Holiday coverage required (1 of 2 or 2 of 3 holidays per unit needs)
  • Floating may be required to Newborn Nursery (NBN), Pediatrics, and PICU based on patient volume and acuity; all float assignments will be within the traveler's skillset
  • Local candidates are accepted

Requirements

  • Active NJ or Compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current certifications: BLS and NRP
  • Minimum 2 years of NICU experience required
  • Level III NICU experience required
  • Proficiency with Epic EMR required
  • Skills required: blood product administration, IV starts and maintenance, medication management (anti-seizure drugs, antibiotics/antivirals, steroids), neonatal dosage calculations, and phlebotomy
  • Skills required: cardiovascular and telemetry monitoring, mechanical ventilation and intubated patient care, HFNC respiratory support, oxygen delivery systems, and respiratory distress management
  • Skills required: enteral feedings and tube placement, glucose monitoring and insulin administration, phototherapy for hyperbilirubinemia, colostomy/ileostomy care, and breastfeeding support
  • Skills required: developmental care, patient and family education, infection control, isolation precautions, and sepsis workup
  • Confidence floating to Newborn Nursery, Pediatrics, and PICU required
  • SSN and DOB required for consideration
  • Two current professional references required
  • Copy of RN license and all certifications required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Unit is affiliated with Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and participates in the Vermont Oxford Network, consistently achieving survival rates above national benchmarks
  • The facility is part of a large, integrated health system; former employees (full-time or PRN) must have been separated from the health system for a minimum of 1 year before being eligible for a travel assignment
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Any RTO or scheduling requests must be confirmed prior to accepting an offer; no requests will be approved after offer
  • The facility reserves the right to call off 1 shift per 2-week period
