Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Stepdown (Heart & Vascular Institute) position requiring a minimum of 2 years of cardiac/vascular experience and active WV or Compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care stepdown unit within a Heart & Vascular Institute (10SE HVI)
• 32-bed unit (all private rooms) consisting of 22 stepdown and 10 floor beds
• Stepdown nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3; floor ratio: 1:6
• Cardiac post-op patients include CABG, maze procedures, valve replacements, Tendyne, mitral clip, LVAD, heart transplants, and TAVRs
• Vascular post-op patients include AAA repair, CEA, femoral bypass, angiograms, and amputations
• Cardiology patients include STEMI, NSTEMI, heart failure, watchman, cardiac cath procedures, PTCA, stents, ICDs, ablations, and pacemakers
• RNs are required to titrate drips including heparin, amiodarone, Cardizem, TPA, Lasix, and dobutamine
• Cardiac Monitor Technicians (CMTs) are on the unit and interpret all telemetry strips
• RT equipment on unit includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen
• Charting via Epic (experience required)
• 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), three shifts per week
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage required as scheduled
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Floating required to sister units within the Heart and Vascular Institute
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 2 years of cardiac/vascular nursing experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Valid driver's license required for consideration
• Two references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)

Additional Information

• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before re-applying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year; after reaching that threshold, a 2-year break is required before returning
• Unit is staffed with a Charge Nurse and House Supervisors 24/7
• Clinical Associates are present on the unit with a goal of 4–5 CAs per shift at a ratio of 1 CA per 8–10 patients
• Unit orientation consists of 2–3 shifts
• Scrub color requirement: solid royal blue and white
