Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele Clinical Decision Unit position in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and Epic proficiency.
Details
- Work in a 24-bed Clinical Decision Unit at a 241-licensed-bed, Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital in Shelby, NC
- Patient population includes various diagnoses spanning cardiac, respiratory, neuro, and other conditions in a fast-paced observation setting
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6 on both day and night shifts, with potential surge ratios of up to 1:7–8
- Telemetry monitoring is performed remotely with a dedicated tele tech
- EMR: Epic (minimum 6 months of experience required)
- IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; bedside monitoring: Masimo in all rooms
- 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation every other weekend
- Low census call is possible; night shift nurses may be called back up to 3:00 AM
- Floating is required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division facilities including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) per regional needs and within scope of practice — do not apply if not agreeable to this requirement
- Schedules are set on a 6-week cycle
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency with cardiac rhythm interpretation and experience with non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone)
- General Med/Surg skillset required, including care of patients with tubes/drains, IV insertion, blood product administration, and wound care
- Epic EMR experience required (minimum 6 months; amount of experience should be noted for consideration)
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- CNA support available at a 1:12 ratio; no Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) on unit
- Charge nurse is always available as a resource and may also carry a patient assignment
- Additional support includes phlebotomy, an IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), on-site hospitalist coverage during day shift (virtual evenings/overnight), and 24/7 intensivist coverage
- Orientation includes facility-level NEO followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; any hours missed must be added to the end of the contract
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Former employees of any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility must have been separated from a permanent position for at least 1 year before being considered
