Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 12-hour night shift travel assignment in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 1.5–2 years of ICU experience and Epic proficiency.

Details

• Work in a 39-bed mixed ICU divided into pods, encompassing MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU
• Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases; diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma
• Cardiac experience (CABG/TAVR, 24–48 hrs post-op) is preferred but not required for travelers; fresh open-heart cases are not assigned to travelers unless the facility determines they are appropriately experienced
• Patient ratios are acuity-dependent: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 (rare)
• Travelers will not float to the CVICU side unless they have experience in that specialty; floating to adult floors including Med-Surg/Tele (1:4 ratio) is possible but uncommon
• Charting via Epic (required); Alaris pumps currently in use (transitioning to Baxter pumps)
• Omnicell medication dispensing system in use
• 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week
• Every-other-weekend rotation (not guaranteed)
• No on-call requirements

Requirements

• Active RN license — SD state license or compact license accepted
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (candidates unwilling to obtain TNCC prior to arrival will not be considered)
• Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience; candidates with 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant RN experience outside of ICU may be considered on a case-by-case basis
• At least one prior travel assignment required; first-time travelers will not be considered
• Epic EMR experience required
• Proficiency with IV medications (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry
• Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
• Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, all-critical-patient environment
• Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
• DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Orientation consists of a hospital orientation session, one 12-hour shift, and one 8-hour shift on the ICU
• Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, two charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, phlebotomy (peripheral draws only), ICU charge RNs for midline placement, a resource nurse (staffing-dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, and physician coverage (3 intensivists on days, 2 on nights, plus an APP on nights)
• May be expected to precept nursing students
• Navy scrubs required
• Free parking is available on-site
• No RTO is permitted during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first three weeks of August)
• RTO of up to 7 days may be approved, but an extension may be required to fulfill the full 13-week contract
• Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
• Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
