Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced travel RN for an ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience (excluding travel) and TNCC certification.
Details
- Mixed ICU unit divided into pods (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU) with 39 total beds
- Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases; diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma
- Cardiac experience (CABG/TAVR, 24–48 hrs post-op) is preferred but not required; fresh open heart cases are assigned to permanent staff only
- Patient ratio is 1:1 or 1:2, with 1:3 occurring rarely and only based on acuity
- Charting system is Epic (required); infusion pumps include Alaris (transitioning to Baxter by October) and Omnicell
- 12-hour day shifts, 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation (not guaranteed)
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating to adult floors including Med/Surg and Tele (1:4 ratio) is possible but uncommon; occurs only when overstaffed
Requirements
- Active RN license — SD license or compact RN license accepted
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (candidates unwilling to obtain TNCC prior to start will not be considered)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience excluding travel experience strongly preferred; candidates with 1.5 years of non-travel ICU experience plus significant RN experience outside of ICU may be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Epic EMR experience required
- Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; hemodynamic lines; proning; ventilator management; and telemetry monitoring
- Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
- Minimum one prior travel assignment required; first-time travelers will not be considered
- 2 professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
Additional Information
- Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, and physician coverage including 3 intensivists on days and 2 on nights plus an APP on nights
- Orientation consists of a hospital orientation, one 8-hour department orientation with iLearns, one 4-hour iLearns session, and two 12-hour floor orientation shifts
- RTO is limited to up to 7 days; no RTO is approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)
- Travelers may occasionally be asked to precept nursing students
- Navy scrubs required
- Free parking is available on-site
- Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
- Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
