Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift contract at a hospital in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 1.5–2 years of ICU experience and TNCC certification.
Details
- Mixed ICU setting with 39 beds divided into pods: MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU
- Complex patient population including ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma — heavy trauma population
- Cardiac experience preferred (not required); CABG/TAVR 24–48 hrs post-op experience is a plus but not required for travelers — fresh open hearts are not assigned to travelers
- Patient ratios are 1:1, 1:2, or rarely 1:3, determined by acuity
- Charting in Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter by October); Omnicell
- 12-hour night shifts at 48 hours per week
- Every-other-weekend rotation (not guaranteed)
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating is uncommon but possible to any adult floor, including Med/Surg or Tele, at a 1:4 ratio
Requirements
- Active RN license in South Dakota or a compact state license currently in hand
- Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel assignments (candidates with 1.5 years ICU experience and significant non-ICU RN background may be considered on a case-by-case basis)
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC — TNCC must be obtained prior to start if not already held
- Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; hemodynamic lines; proning; ventilator management; and telemetry
- Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
- Minimum one prior travel assignment required — first-time travelers will not be considered
- Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
- Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, and robust physician coverage (3 intensivists on days, 2 on nights, plus an APP on nights)
- Orientation includes hospital orientation, one 8-hour department orientation, one 4-hour iLearns session, and two 12-hour floor orientation shifts
- Navy scrubs required
- Free parking available on-site
- Candidates may occasionally be asked to precept students
- No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise, provided the full 13-week contract is covered
- Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
