Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry night shift position in St. Louis, MO, requiring a minimum of 1 year of inpatient cardiac tele experience and active MO or compact RN licensure.

- Located on a 32-bed Cardiac Telemetry unit (4 South) within an acute care hospital in St. Louis, MO
- Patient population includes CHF, chest pain, arrhythmias (AFib, flutter, SVT), respiratory, renal, and hemodialysis patients, with overflow cases including sepsis, urology, surgical, ETOH/drug withdrawals, isolation, and GI bleeds
- Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Patient ratios on nights are approximately 1:6–1:8
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required as needed to a similar or lower acuity unit
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- Equipment includes lift equipment, bladder scanner, interpreter iPad, and BiPAP monitoring
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active RN license in Missouri or a compact state license eligible for Missouri endorsement
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications from AHA only — no expiring certifications within the first 30 days of assignment
- Minimum 1 year of recent inpatient cardiac telemetry experience
- Proficiency in telemetry reading and rhythm interpretation
- Experience with CHF, chest pain, renal, and hemodialysis patients
- Experience administering Amiodarone and Cardizem drips
- Experience with central lines including HD catheters, ports, and PICCs
- Valid U.S. Social Security Number required
- No employment gaps of 90+ days within the past 12 months
Additional Information
- Fast-paced, high-acuity telemetry unit supported by monitor techs and telemetry monitors at each nursing station
- Preferred experience includes Tikosyn and Sotalol initiation, dopamine/dobutamine/lidocaine/nitro/milrinone drips, chest tubes, other drains, and CIWA (withdrawal) protocol
- The facility is a Level 2 Trauma Center, a Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center, a Level 1 STEMI Center, and holds Joint Commission Advanced Certification in Heart Failure
- Night shift orientation takes place on day shift; must be available the entire orientation week
- Flu vaccination or a Mercy-approved exemption is required for all travelers from November 1 through April 1 — declinations are not accepted
- Up to 5 days of RTO is permitted but must be made up during the assignment; only 1 holiday RTO request per assignment
- Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are eligible but will be subject to a reduced bill rate
- Candidates living within 50 miles of the facility are limited to 3 consecutive 13-week contracts before a 1-year separation or reassignment outside the 50-mile radius is required
- Scrub requirements: solid black tops and pants; tops must feature the Mercy cross logo on the left chest; undershirts may be black, white, yellow, green, red, or blue
- Physical demands include standing and walking most of the shift, significant bending and stooping, and lifting/turning patients with assistance; must be able to push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs and pinch up to 15 lbs
