Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a teaching hospital in Maine, requiring a ME or compact RN license and a minimum of 2 years of ED experience.
Details
- Night shift schedule: 7P–7A, 12-hour shifts
- 36 hours per week
- Emergency Department within an 89-bed licensed teaching hospital
- ED has 11 beds, including 3 trauma bays, 1 behavioral seclusion room, and 2 negative pressure rooms
- Patient population spans neonates to geriatrics, including trauma, stroke, STEMI, and behavioral health cases
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4 (variable based on acuity); Tech ratio of 1:11
- Charting system: FirstNet
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call requirements
- Holiday coverage as needed
- No floating required
Requirements
- Active ME or compact RN license required
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS
- TNCC and NRP preferred
- Minimum 2 years of ED experience (recruiter notes indicate minimum 1 year in specialty; 2 years preferred per facility)
- Experience with EKGs, IV starts, TNKase administration, nebulizer treatments, BiPAP initiation, suture removal, casting assistance, and vent management
- Flu vaccination required for clearance
- 2 professional references within the past year required; at least one from a supervisor, manager, or director (charge nurse acceptable; peer references not accepted)
- Full SSN, driver's license, and copies of all certifications required for consideration
- Permanent address must be 100+ miles south/southwest of Bangor, ME (EMMC at 489 State St.) to be eligible
- No previous permanent employment at any Northern Light Health Hospital

- 3-day orientation: 2 days of hospital orientation (including time in the ED) and 1 day with a preceptor
- Unit support includes ED provider, mid-level provider (variable hours), hospitalist (24/7), house supervisor, receptionist (24/7), ED techs, RT (dayshift; available on-call for unstable patients), critical care transport team, and 24/7 security on site
- Charge nurse (CRN) experience is a notable plus — candidates are encouraged to mention this background
- Professional scrubs in any color; hospital scrubs available but not required
- On-site locker/changing room, gym, and free parking available
