Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/IMC/Med-Surg travel assignment requiring at least 1 year of PCU or ICU experience and Cerner proficiency.

Details

• Work in an acute care PCU/IMC/Med-Surg unit at a Level 4 Trauma facility
• Unit has 12 beds plus 4 ICU rooms with an average census of 8 patients
• Patient population includes pneumonia/COVID, post-op orthopedic (knees, hips), and fall cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: IMC/PCU 1:3-4, MS 1:5, ICU 1:3; team nursing model pairs RN with LPN for up to 7 patients total, with 2 RNs in the department at all times
• RNs are required to titrate drips; common agents include Amiodarone, Heparin (IMCU) and Levo, Cardizem, Dobutamine, and pressors (ICU)
• RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips (remote monitoring supported from Eau Claire)
• 12-hour night shifts
• Every 3rd weekend required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Floating to the ED for tasking or holding patients is an option in lieu of low-census call
• On-call/standby required on a rotating basis with a 45-minute response time; floating to the ED reduces likelihood of being placed on standby
• Charting system is Cerner (transitioning to Epic); Cerner experience is required
• Self-scheduling with a dedicated scheduler; travelers are asked to be flexible to help fill permanent staffing gaps

Requirements

• Active WI or Compact RN license required by start date
• Current certifications required: BLS and ACLS (both AHA)
• Minimum 1 year of PCU or ICU experience required (Med-Surg Tele experience alone is not sufficient)
• Cerner EMR experience required
• 2 professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years of relevant experience

Additional Information

• RNs may be asked to step into a charge nurse role; the charge nurse typically carries a small patient assignment
• A CNA is available when census exceeds 6 patients
• Vented patients are transferred to a higher level of care
• Orientation consists of 4 hours of CBT/onboarding and 8 hours of floor training
• Holiday coverage required for 2 out of every 3 holidays
• Any solid-color scrubs are acceptable
• Travel duos are welcome
• First-time travelers will be considered
• Candidates who have previously worked for Marshfield as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their start date, and hospital approval is required
• Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local, which may affect pay package structure
• 13-week contract
