Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a 13-week travel contract at an acute care hospital in West Virginia, requiring prior robotics and ortho experience along with Epic proficiency.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting with 9 OR suites, 1 procedure room, and 1 hybrid room averaging 35–45 cases per day
- OR is open 24/7 and handles a wide range of surgical specialties including general, ENT, eyes, ortho, robotics (Da Vinci and Rosa), neuro spine, vascular, peds (dental and ENT), trauma, and emergent cases — all except CVOR and L&D C-sections
- Shift is 12 hours x 3 days, primarily M–F 7A–7:30P with varied start times; no self-scheduling for travelers
- Weeknight on-call rotation: one weeknight 7P–7A per week cycle; weekend on-call: one 24-hour shift per month (7A–7P); holiday call rotation as needed
- Call response time is 30 minutes; candidates on call who live more than 30 minutes away may be required to stay on-site
- Float to outpatient surgery as needed
- Charge RN coverage available 7A–7P; travelers rotate through charge; evening/night shift RN works as the sole RN alongside 2 techs
- OR techs are on staff; scrubs are provided for RNs and OR techs
- EMR: Epic (required)
Requirements
- Active WV RN license or compact RN license required; facility is willing to wait for licensure
- Current BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA) certifications required; PALS preferred
- Minimum 2–3 years of OR RN experience required
- Minimum 2–3 prior travel assignments required
- Ortho experience required
- Hands-on experience passing arms in and out for robotic surgery (Da Vinci) required
- Experience across all OR surgical specialties required for evening, night, and weekend shifts
- Epic EMR experience required
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Driver's license required for consideration
- 2 references required: 1 supervisor reference (from a permanent facility if worked perm within the last 12 months) and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
Additional Information
- Circulates cases as primary RN responsibility; scrubbing is a plus but not required
- OR staff is predominantly travel nurses
- OR techs are responsible for room turnover; no aides or housekeeping support available in the OR
- Orientation consists of 3 shifts over 1 week
- Candidates with limited experience in one service line may be considered for day shifts (M–F 7A–3:30P), with facility support for learning or refreshing that service line
- Evening, night, and weekend shifts require comprehensive experience across all specialties
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before applying
- Candidates who have worked within the WVU system for a cumulative total of one year must take a 2-year break before returning
- All candidates interview directly with the unit manager
