Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level III trauma center in Farmington, NM, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and certifications including TNCC.
Details
- Emergency Department in a 198-bed Level III trauma center serving the Four Corners region of New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Utah
- The ED has 48 beds with flex space, accommodating a diverse patient population including ESRD, cirrhosis, COPD, and psychiatric patients
- Patient ratios are 4:1 in the main ED and 6:1 in Fast Track
- Common diagnoses and treatments include ESRD, substance abuse disorders, psychological disorders, COPD, CHF, abdominal pain, and chest pain
- Required procedures and skills include trauma, stroke, STEMI, sepsis management, and moderate sedation
- Equipment used includes Zoll Defibrillator, Level One Blood Transfuser, QinFlow Blood Warmer, Hospira Plum360, Freestyle and iStat POC, and ultrasound-guided IV
- EMR is Cerner
- Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Minimum of two weekends per schedule required
- No on-call or float requirements
- 13-week contract with 36 hours per week
Requirements
- Active NM or Compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC — all must be from the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Experience with trauma, stroke, STEMI, sepsis, and moderate sedation required
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or higher required

Pros
Unit is comprised of many travelers. Core staff and travelers have all been fantastic! The unit is set up quite well to manage the surges of patients. It is the only main hospital around so it can definitely provide good experience. Most of the providers I've encountered over the last couple months actually listen to the nurses and are easy to work with.
Cons
It is definitely busy before the size of the town. I can't say I have any other cons.
