Description
American Traveler is seeking a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level II trauma center in Farmington, NM, requiring a minimum of 1 year of experience and an active NM or Compact RN license.
Details
- Medical/Surgical unit in a 198-bed, Level II trauma center serving the Four Corners region of New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Utah
- 43-bed Medical Unit (CC1001) caring for adult patients 18 years of age and older
- Common diagnoses include cirrhosis, sepsis, pneumonia, respiratory illnesses, wounds, and CHF
- Patient ratios of 1:5 to 1:6
- Night shift schedule: 7P–7A (19:00–07:00)
- 36-hour work week
- All staff are expected to work at least 2 weekend shifts per month
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required per facility needs
- EMR: Cerner
- Equipment includes VS machines, bladder scanners, IV pumps, thermal imaging, lifts, and tube feeding pumps
Requirements
- Active NM or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS certification required (American Heart Association only)
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required; 2 years preferred
- ADN or higher required
- Med/Surg experience preferred
- Skills checklist with an overall rating of at least 3.2 required for consideration
Additional Information
- Charge nurse experience is preferred but not required
- Oncology skills are helpful but not required
- The facility is a Level II trauma center; due to its regional location, Trauma Level I, II, and III cases are flown in
- The hospital offers a broad range of services including oncology, nephrology, pediatrics, inpatient behavioral health, a childbirth center, and a day surgery center
- An area-specific competency exam and screening questions are required for consideration
- 13-week contract

Pros
Unit is comprised of many travelers. Core staff and travelers have all been fantastic! The unit is set up quite well to manage the surges of patients. It is the only main hospital around so it can definitely provide good experience. Most of the providers I've encountered over the last couple months actually listen to the nurses and are easy to work with.
Cons
It is definitely busy before the size of the town. I can't say I have any other cons.
