Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a mixed ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring Epic proficiency, TNCC certification, and a minimum of 1.5–2 years of ICU experience.

Details

• 39-bed mixed ICU unit encompassing MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU in a hospital setting
• Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases
• Diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma — heavy trauma population
• Cardiac experience is preferred, including CABG/TAVR 24–48 hrs post-op
• Patient ratios are 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 (rare), acuity dependent
• Charting via Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter Pumps) and Omnicell also in use
• 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation
• No on-call requirements
• Floating is uncommon but possible to adult floors including Med/Surg or Tele at a 1:4 ratio

Requirements

• Active RN license — SD license or a Compact RN license valid in South Dakota required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)
• Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience
• Candidates with 1.5 years of ICU experience and significant non-ICU RN experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis
• Epic EMR experience required
• Proficiency with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
• Experience with hemodynamic lines, ventilator management, proning, and telemetry
• Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, all-critical-patient environment
• At least one prior travel assignment required — first-time travelers will not be considered
• 2 professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
• DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
• Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning in a travel capacity
• Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, phlebotomy for peripheral draws, and ICU charge RNs for midline placement
• Physician coverage includes 3 intensivists on days and 2 intensivists plus an APP on nights
• Orientation consists of one 12-hour shift and one 8-hour shift on the ICU, plus a general hospital orientation
• No RTO (time off requests) approved during holidays
• No RTO during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August annually); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise, but the contract must be extended to accommodate a full 13-week assignment
