Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Stepdown position at an acute care facility in West Virginia, requiring ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications with cardiac experience preferred.
Details
- Work in a 32-bed cardiac stepdown unit within an acute care hospital setting (22 stepdown beds and 10 floor beds)
- Patient population includes cardiology, heart failure, cardiac surgery, and medicine/hospitalist (med-surg) cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:3 on stepdown and 1:5 or 1:6 on the floor
- RNs are required to titrate drips including heparin, insulin, nitroglycerin, Cardizem, nicardipine, Lasix, amiodarone, and dobutamine
- Respiratory equipment on the unit includes nasal cannula, CPAP, BiPAP, HFNC, and trach-to-vent; a dedicated RT is assigned to the 9th floor
- Telemetry monitoring is handled by tele techs on adjacent units using Philips monitoring systems
- Clinical associates (patient care techs) are present on the unit, typically 2 overnight and up to 4 during other shifts
- Charting is performed in Epic
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Weekend requirement includes 3–4 Saturday/Sunday shifts, 2 Fridays, and 2 Mondays per 4-week scheduling period
- Holiday coverage required; one each of the following pairs: Black Friday or Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, New Year's Eve or New Year's Day
- Self-scheduling is available in Kronos with flexibility for block scheduling
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Travelers are the first to be floated off the unit when needed; approximately 1 out of every 3 shifts may involve a pull to a floor assignment
Requirements
- Active WV RN license or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Cardiac experience strongly preferred
- Epic EMR experience beneficial
- Two professional references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (if permanent employment within the last 12 months, one reference must be from that employer)
- Copies of certifications and a valid driver's license required for consideration
- Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration
- Any license history issues must be disclosed upfront
Additional Information
- A dedicated charge nurse is assigned to each shift; house supervisors are available in the building at all times
- Royal blue scrubs are required
- Unit-specific orientation is provided
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from this WVU facility to be eligible for the travel position
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
- Candidates may only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
