Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Stepdown position at an acute care hospital in West Virginia, requiring ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications with night shift availability.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting, 9SE Cardiac Stepdown unit with 32 total beds (22 stepdown, 10 floor beds)
• Patient population includes cardiology, heart failure, cardiac surgery, and medicine/hospitalist (med-surg) cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:3 on stepdown, 1:5 or 1:6 on floor
• RNs are required to titrate drips including heparin, insulin, nitroglycerin, Cardizem, nicardipine, Lasix, amiodarone, and dobutamine
• Respiratory support equipment on unit includes nasal cannula, CPAP, BiPAP, HFNC, and trach-to-vent; dedicated RT available for the floor
• Telemetry monitoring handled by tele techs on adjacent units using Philips monitoring systems
• Charting system is Epic
• 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Weekend requirement: 3–4 Saturday/Sunday shifts, 2 Fridays, and 2 Mondays per 4-week scheduling period
• Holiday coverage required: one of Black Friday or Thanksgiving, one of Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, and one of New Year's Eve or New Year's Day
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Self-scheduling in Kronos with flexibility for block scheduling
• Travelers are first to be floated off the unit if needed; rotational pull to floor assignment approximately 1 out of every 3 shifts
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active WV RN license or compact RN license required; willingness to obtain license prior to start is accepted
• Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Cardiac experience strongly preferred
• Epic EMR experience beneficial
• 2 professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference (must be from most recent permanent facility if worked within the last 12 months) and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
• Copies of all certifications and a valid driver's license required for consideration
• Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration
• Any license history issues must be disclosed upfront

Additional Information

• Dedicated charge nurse on each shift; charge nurse may carry a reduced patient assignment of 1–3 patients depending on staffing
• Clinical associates (nurse aides) are present on the unit, typically 2 overnight
• Royal blue scrubs required
• Unit-specific orientation provided
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from this WVU facility to be eligible
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Cumulative travel experience at WVU facilities is capped at 1 year, after which a 2-year break is required before returning
