Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at an oncology hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg Tele experience and oncology-specific skills including chemotherapy administration.
Details
- Inpatient Med/Surg Telemetry unit within an oncology hospital setting
- Cares for adult and geriatric patients with cancer diagnoses including endometrial, bladder, renal, ovarian, and cervical cancers
- Specialized treatments include chemotherapy, clinical trials, brachytherapy, and CBI (continuous bladder irrigation)
- Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall management
- Staffing ratio target is 1:4, with potential adjustment to 1:5 based on unit needs
- Telemetry monitoring with dysrhythmia interpretation required
- Charting is done in Epic
- Rotating 12-hour day/night shifts (7:00–19:30 days; 19:00–7:30 nights); scheduling is reviewed every 4-week period based on unit needs
- Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs
- Self-scheduling requests are accommodated while meeting unit requirements
Requirements
- Active OH RN license or compact RN license required
- Active BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required
- Ability to interpret dysrhythmias and respond to telemetry changes
- Experience with chemotherapy administration and brachytherapy required
- Epic EMR experience required
- ONS Chemotherapy certification preferred
- 2 professional references required: at least 1 must be from a Manager, Director, or Supervisor; a Charge RN is acceptable as the 2nd reference; no coworker references accepted
Additional Information
- Administer chemotherapy and monitor patients for adverse reactions
- Participate in clinical trials including data collection and documentation
- Perform specialized procedures including brachytherapy, neobladder care, feeding tube management, IV therapy, blood product administration, and central line maintenance
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary and rapid response teams
- Orientation begins with the first week on Monday–Friday dayshift, followed by a second week of 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor
- Ohio fingerprinting is required and must be initiated promptly upon booking; candidates outside Ohio may need to travel to an in-state fingerprinting location or will be mailed a fingerprinting packet to complete urgently
- Former employees of this facility are eligible to return as travelers after a minimum 6-month separation
- RTO must be requested upfront and is limited to 7 days or fewer for the contract duration
- Local candidates are accepted
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Multiple parking permit options are available for purchase near the medical center, including garage and surface lot access with shuttle service

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
