Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU Float position requiring a MO or compact license, with at least 2 years of recent specialty experience and strong cardiac and telemetry skills.
Details
- 13-week contract on a PCU Float unit, working nights (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) on a 3x12 schedule
- Patient ratio of 1:5
- Required to work 8 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling period, with shifts falling on any combination of Friday, Saturday, or Sunday
- Float RN role requiring regular floating between departments, units, and facilities as needed
- Required skills include interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring (unit and remote), and use of Rapid Response Teams
- Cardiovascular care includes post-cardiac, post-MI, angiogram, and pre/post cardiac cath and cardiac surgery patients
- Endocrine/metabolic skills required include IV insulin protocol management
- GI skills required include feeding tube care and management
- GU/renal skills required include pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care
- IV therapy skills required include blood product administration, central line care, PICC line management, phlebotomy, and starting IVs
- Medication skills required include heparin protocols, managing and titrating cardiac drips, PCA, and procedural sedation administration
- Neurological care includes CVA patient management
- Orthopedic skills required include peripheral nerve block catheters and total joint replacement care
- Respiratory skills required include chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, and tracheostomy management
- Additional required skills include isolation precautions and wound care/wound vac
- Preferred skills include accessing ports and monitoring chemotherapy (oncology)
- Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments required as needed
Requirements
- Active MO or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration (Kansas license also required, as floating between facilities may include KS locations)
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/telemetry specialty experience required
- Must have at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gap greater than 90 days in the past year
- Previous charge RN and teaching hospital experience preferred
- SSN required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one must be supervisor level or above, the second may be a charge RN; all references must be from individuals who have worked with the candidate within the past year
- Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Travel partners are not accepted for this position
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- RTO is capped at 7 days for the duration of the contract
- No block scheduling available
- Completion of facility compliance modules (approximately 10–15 hours total) is required prior to the start date
- Drug screening is required; a diluted or positive result that cannot be cleared will result in cancellation, with a 6-month waiting period before reapplication
