Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and the ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias on a night shift schedule.
Details
- Hospital Med/Surg Telemetry unit setting
- Patient population includes pulmonary, general medical, COPD, asthma, trach, and longer length-of-stay patients
- Specialized procedures include management of trach patients, chest tubes, oxygen therapy up to BiPAP/CPAP; no ventilators
- Patient ratio is 5:1, with the possibility of running 6:1
- EMR systems include Epic and Pyxis; SBAR communication protocol used
- 12-hour night shifts, 18:45–07:15 (3x12)
- Floating required as needed within the service line
- Weekend requirement: 6 weekend shifts (Saturday and/or Sunday) every 6 weeks
- Self-scheduling with leadership balancing based on unit needs
- No on-call requirements
- 13-week contract with potential to extend beyond 13 weeks; 36 or 48 hours per week may be available
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required; license pending at time of consideration is accepted
- Current BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias required
- Telemetry experience preferred
- Must pass an EKG test prior to start
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required prior to start (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility may be offered a different rate
- Former permanent, PRN, or EP staff of Novant Health or New Hanover Regional must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Orientation is conducted weekly
- 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules are required and must be completed before the assignment begins; modules are also required annually
- No RTO is permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved provided it does not fall on a holiday; any additional RTO requires facility approval; RTO cannot be arranged on-site after booking
- Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Scrubs are not provided; navy blue and white in any combination are required
- Travel pairs are allowed, provided each traveler has their own transportation and is comfortable with potentially different schedules
