Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry night shift position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and the ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias.
Details
- Hospital-based Med/Surg Telemetry unit
- Patient population includes pulmonary, general medical, COPD, asthma, trach patients, and patients with longer lengths of stay
- Special procedures include trach care, chest tube management, and O2 up to BiPAP/CPAP (no ventilators)
- Patient ratio is 5:1, with potential to run 6:1
- Night shift: 12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15), 3 shifts per week
- Weekend requirement: 3 weekends per 6-week cycle (6 total weekend shifts)
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required within the service line as needed
- EMR: Epic; also uses Pyxis and SBAR communication framework
- Self-scheduling with leadership balancing based on unit needs
- 13-week contract minimum; longer contract extensions are available
- Local candidates are accepted within 50 miles of the facility at a different pay rate
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required; license pending at time of consideration is acceptable
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Required certifications: BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias required
- Telemetry experience preferred
- Must pass an EKG test prior to start
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required prior to start (pending references at time of consideration are acceptable)
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Previous permanent, PRN, or employee pool (EP) staff of Novant Health or New Hanover must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Orientation is conducted weekly
- 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules are required and must be completed annually; modules are delivered via online learning, Zoom, webinar, and in-person classes
- No RTO is permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation; up to 7 days of RTO may be approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday
- Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Travel pairs are allowed, provided each traveler has their own transportation and is comfortable with potentially different schedules
- Scrubs are not provided; navy blue and white in any combination are required
