Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) position at an acute care facility in West Virginia, requiring a minimum of 2 years of CVICU experience and the ability to manage complex cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgical patients.

- 28-bed Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) in an acute care hospital setting
- Patient population includes cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgeries, as well as ECMO, LVAD, and heart transplant patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1 and 1:2 depending on patient acuity
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including all critical care drips such as inotropes and sedation
- Telemetry monitoring is present on the unit; RNs must be able to independently read cardiac strips
- RT is available in the ICU 24/7, with full ventilator, CPAP, and BiPAP support
- Intensivists and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are in-house 24/7
- Unit is supported by 1 Charge Nurse and 2 House Supervisors, with 1–3 CNAs on the unit
- Charting is done in Epic; experience is required
- 12-hour day/night rotating shifts
- Weekend requirements: Day and rotating shift RNs must cover a minimum of 3 weekend days; night shift RNs must cover a minimum of 2 weekend days, plus 1 Friday and 1 Monday (Weekenders are exempt from the Monday requirement)
- Holiday coverage is integrated into the permanent staff holiday rotation
- No on-call or standby requirement
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WV RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand or in process
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; CCRN preferred
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience required, specifically with cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgical patients, ECMO, LVAD, and heart transplant cases
- Ability to independently read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
- Experience titrating critical care drips including inotropes and sedation
- BSN is not required
- Valid driver's license required for consideration; address must reflect a residence more than 50 miles from the facility
Additional Information
- Royal blue scrubs are required
- One week of unit-specific orientation is provided
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before applying
- Candidates may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year; once that threshold is reached, a 2-year break is required before returning
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Two supervisor and peer references will be required for consideration, including a supervisor reference from any permanent facility worked within the last 12 months
