Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a 13-week travel contract at an acute care hospital in West Virginia, requiring a minimum of 2-3 years of OR experience including ortho and robotic-assisted surgery.
Details
- 9 OR suites, 1 procedure room, and 1 hybrid room in a 24/7 acute care operating room environment
- Averages 35–45 surgical cases per day across a broad range of specialties including general, ENT, eyes, ortho, robotics (Da Vinci and Rosa), neuro spine, vascular, pediatric (dental and ENT), trauma, and emergent cases — all except CVOR and L&D C-sections
- Vascular cases include AV fistulas, carotids, angiograms, fem pops, and BKAs (no AAAs); neuro spine cases include burr holes, VP shunts, EVDs, laminectomies, discectomies, fusions, TLIFs, ALIFs, and nerve stimulators
- 12-hour shifts, 3 days per week; Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- On-call requirements include one weeknight (7P–7A) per rotation, one weekday call period (M–Th evenings 7P–7A), and one weekend 24-hour on-call shift (7A–7P) per month
- Holiday call rotation required as needed
- 30-minute call response time required; candidates who live more than 30 minutes away and are on call must remain on-site
- Float to outpatient surgery as needed
- Epic EMR used in this position
- Charge RN coverage available 7A–7P; travelers rotate through charge responsibilities
- Night shift RNs work as the sole RN with 2 OR techs and must be fully comfortable in that role
- OR scrubs are provided for RNs and OR techs
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA) required; PALS preferred
- Minimum 2–3 years of OR experience required
- Minimum 2–3 prior travel assignments required
- Ortho experience required, including total joints, shoulders, hips, knees, ORIF, and sports medicine
- Must have hands-on experience passing robotic arms in and out for robotic-assisted surgery (Da Vinci)
- Must be proficient across all surgical specialties, particularly for evening, night, or weekend shifts
- Epic EMR experience required
- Driver's license address must reflect residence more than 50 miles from the facility
- 2 references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN); if perm employment within the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
- Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration
- Copies of certifications and driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Scrubbing is a plus but not required for RNs
- OR techs are responsible for room turnover; no housekeeping or aides are available
- OR staff is predominantly composed of travelers
- Orientation consists of 3 shifts over 1 week
- Candidates with limited experience in one service line may be considered for day shifts (M–F, 7A–3:30P) with opportunity for facility support and service line training
- Evening, night, and weekend shifts require comprehensive multi-specialty experience
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being considered
- Candidates who have worked within the WVU system for a cumulative total of one year must take a 2-year break before returning
- First-time travelers are not eligible for this position due to the requirement of 2–3 prior travel assignments
