Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and Epic proficiency.

- Clinical Decision Unit in a 241-licensed-bed, Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center hospital
- 24-bed unit with an average daily census of 24
- Patient population includes a fast-paced mix of cardiac, respiratory, neurological, and other observation cases
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:5–6 (with potential surge ratios up to 1:7–8); CNA support at 1:12
- Telemetry monitoring performed remotely via telemetry technician
- EMR: Epic (minimum 6 months of experience required)
- IV Pump: Alaris; Medication Dispensing: Omnicell; Patient Monitors: Masimo (all rooms)
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM (36 hours/week)
- Shift times: 0645–1915 or 1845–0715
- Every-other-weekend rotation required
- Floating required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) per regional needs — candidates who are unwilling to float to these facilities should not apply
- Low census call possible; RNs may be called back up to 3:00 PM for day shift
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or valid Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and experience with non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone)
- General Med/Surg skillset required, including care of patients with tubes/drains, IV insertion, blood product administration, and wound care/dressing changes
- Epic EMR experience required (minimum 6 months; amount of experience must be documented on the candidate profile)
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
- Unit support includes CNA coverage, charge nurse (may carry a patient assignment), phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, Respiratory Therapy (24/7), on-site Hospitalist (days) with virtual coverage evenings/overnight, and Intensivist (24/7)
- No HUC on the unit
- Orientation includes a NEO session plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Schedules are issued on a 6-week cycle
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays
- Required scrub color: Navy
