Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level I Trauma Emergency Department position requiring recent trauma experience and a full set of emergency certifications, working 12-hour night shifts.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting in a Level I Trauma Center, Pediatric Certified by State, and Comprehensive Stroke Center
  • Emergency Department with 20 beds, 5 trauma bays, 10 OBS beds, hallway beds, a 6-bed Fast Track area, and 3 triage beds
  • Patient population includes trauma, sepsis, chest pain, shortness of breath, strokes with TPA administration, and all common Level I trauma diagnoses
  • Common drips include all drips typical of a Level I trauma ER environment
  • Patient ratios: 1:4 in zones, 1:6 in Fast Track, 1:5 in OBS, and 1:1 in ICU/Trauma
  • RNs are required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips
  • Shift schedule: 12-hour nights (7p–7a); available shift start times include 0700, 0900, 1100, 1500, and 1900 — scheduling is determined by leadership
  • Weekend and holiday coverage required based on department needs
  • Floating required to the OBS unit and a freestanding ER location at least once per week
  • EMR: Epic

Requirements

  • Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Recent Level I or Level II Trauma experience required
  • Required certifications (all must be active; pending not accepted): BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC
  • NRP preferred
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility, as verified by driver's license
  • Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity
  • Driver's license required for consideration
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

  • High-acuity, fast-paced emergency department with in-house security staffed 24/7 in the ER
  • Both ED physicians and mid-level providers are staffed on all shifts
  • A charge nurse is present on every shift; nurse aides, EMTs, and/or paramedics are also available (ratios: 1:10 in OBS, 1:20 in main ED)
  • Orientation consists of 1 week of onboarding, 2 shifts at the main facility, and 1 shift at the freestanding ER location
  • RNs must pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% — failure to pass results in contract termination
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result to contract termination
  • RTO requests (7 days or fewer per 13-week contract) must be submitted upfront — additional RTO will not be approved
  • Candidates who were previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms at CommonSpirit facilities will be considered
