Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Acute Epilepsy Monitoring unit position at a Level 1 Trauma facility, requiring at least 2 years of experience and Level 1 Trauma background.

Details

  • Level 1 Trauma acute care hospital setting
  • Neuro Acute Epilepsy Monitoring unit (6N) with 48 total beds, including 10 epilepsy specialty rooms
  • Patient population includes epilepsy, 24-48 hour trend EEGs, brain tumor, subdural hematoma, scoliosis surgeries, TBI, and other neurological diagnoses
  • Patient ratio is 1:4 on both days and nights
  • Charge nurse present with no patient assignment; one resource RN available on days and nights
  • PCT support: 1-2 on days, 1 at night
  • Primarily Med/Surg with some telemetry monitoring required; BiPAP managed by Respiratory Therapy
  • Charting via Cerner EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts (7pm–7am)
  • 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week period; self-scheduling
  • Travelers are first to float; float destinations may include Med/Surg, Telemetry, or sister campuses
  • On-call not specified; RT, pharmacy, IV SWAT team, and hospitalist/intensivist support available on-site

Requirements

  • Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license currently in hand — pending licenses not accepted
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required — pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Level 1 Trauma experience required
  • Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation (2 attempts allowed)
  • Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to detect subtle changes in patient condition
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide neurological nursing care including assessment of cranial nerves; Med/Surg and Tele RNs with strong skills will be trained on cranial nerve assessment
  • Day 1 of orientation includes a pass/fail SIMs Lab competency evaluation covering sterile Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes — nurses have been dismissed for breaking sterile field
  • Orientation also covers lifts, restraints, and wound care (educational, not pass/fail)
  • 2-shift floor-specific orientation provided
  • Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; those employed PRN through outside staffing firms may be considered
  • Holiday coverage required based on unit rotation
  • Scrubs must be grey (Grey's Anatomy brand or steel color)
  • Natural hair color required; no facial piercings permitted; male candidates must be clean-shaven (fit test requirement)
  • Personal vehicle required
  • BSN preferred but not required
  • Med/Surg or Telemetry certification preferred
