Description
American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift RN for a CVICU position requiring 2 years of CVICU experience and immediate post-op open heart surgery experience.
Details
- -bed CVICU unit with an average daily census of 3-5 patients
- 1:2 patient ratio
- 13-week assignment on night shift, 3x12 hours (19:00-07:30)
- Common diagnoses include post-op cardiac surgery (CABG, MVR, AVR), cardiac surgery re-admissions/ICU bounce-backs, structural heart-TAVR, mitral clips, STEMI/NSTEMI, and cardiogenic shock
- First 6-hours post-op care involves management of 2 or more inotropic medications, hemodynamic instability, active cardiac output management, extreme coagulopathy, open chest, OHS/Impella, ECMO, CRRT, and IABP
- Perfusionist on-site for ECMO support and dialysis on-site for CRRT
- Uses Epic charting system
- Required to work every third weekend
- Holiday coverage required as scheduled
- Floating required to MSICU as needed
- On-call required for 24-32 hours per rotating 8-week schedule
Requirements
- Active MD or Compact RN license required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and CPI required; NIHSS, OCN, and TNCC preferred
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience required
- Immediate post-op open heart surgery experience required
- Required charting system experience with Epic
- Skills required include arterial line management, central line care/management, blood product administration, ventilator management, and interpretation of ABGs
- Cardiovascular skills required include CVP monitoring, care of post cardiac surgery patients, IABP, Impella, and pre/post cardiac cath/intervention management
- Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips required
- Experience with continuous IV sedation and emergency medications required
- Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management required
- Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing to post-surgical cardiac patients including CABG, valve repair/replacement, and TAVR procedures
- Manage complex cardiovascular support devices including ECMO, Impella, and IABP
- Care for patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- Perform sheath removal and epicardial pacing wire care and management
- Floating required with priority given to travelers, no scheduling restrictions can be guaranteed
- First-time travelers will be considered provided they have CVICU experience
- Must reside 50+ miles from the hospital to be eligible for travel contract unless otherwise specified
- Returning travelers must have been away from the health system for at least 6 months since their last assignment
- Former staff members must wait 12 months before returning as a travefr
- Maximum RTO request of 7 days; requests exceeding 4 consecutive days require an additional week added to the back end of new contracts
- One major holiday off during winter season may be permitted depending on unit needs

They will short staff you every day. I got attitude multiple times when trying to take lunch 9 hours into my shift because ‘we don’t really do that here.’ Incredibly frustrating staffing levels, especially on the oncology floor.
