Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg position in Cedar Rapids, IA, serving as the hospital's stroke unit, with required experience in heparin, cardizem, and amiodarone administration.
Details
- Hospital Med/Surg unit that also serves as the stroke unit for the facility
- 24-bed unit with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio on nights
- Night shift position working Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (3x12-hour shifts, 36 hrs/week)
- Required to float between the Med/Surg and Stepdown units
- Patient population includes neurology (stroke), oncology, and general med/surg patients
- Charting in Epic EMR
- No on-call requirements
- Holiday rotation required — must work 1–2 of 3 upcoming summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day)
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active IA RN license or compact RN license (must be active at time of consideration)
- Active AHA BLS certification required
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred — can be obtained during onboarding
- Minimum of 12 months Med/Surg experience required
- First-time travelers are welcome, but must have a minimum of 18 months of total nursing experience in a hospital or medical center setting
- At least 24 months of recent Med/Surg, oncology, or neurology experience reflected in work history
- Experience administering heparin, cardizem, and amiodarone required
- Experience caring for neurology patients required
- Experience caring for oncology patients highly preferred
- Epic EMR experience required
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Supervisory professional reference from within the past 24 months preferred
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for the standard travel pay rate
- Candidates who have been employed by this health system as an FTE or PRN (including float pool) within the past 12 months are not eligible for this position, regardless of which facility within the system they worked at
- Navy or black solid-colored scrub tops and bottoms required
- Oncology patient care experience is highly preferred given the unit's patient mix
- NIHSS certification is preferred but can be obtained during onboarding if not already held
