Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele experience and a valid NC or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in a 36-bed Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit at a 874-bed, Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital with Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designations
  • Patient population includes urological cases (bladder CA, prostatectomy, kidney stones, renal CA, TURBT), GI/hepatic conditions (ESLD, liver failure, AKI/CKD, GI disorders, peritoneal dialysis), transplant patients (pre/post-op kidney, liver, pancreas), and surgical trauma (chest tubes, SCI, GSW, MVA, traumatic falls)
  • RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4–6, with potential surge ratios up to 1:7–8; CNA support at 1:9–12
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call responsibilities for travelers
  • Floating required within assigned region to multiple facilities, within scope of practice — candidates who are not agreeable to floating should not apply
  • EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
  • Nurses are responsible for reading telemetry monitors and responding — no dedicated monitoring tech on unit

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency in general Med/Tele skills including stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, Foley insertion/management, PCA pumps)
  • Experience managing medication drips including cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IVF
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Candidate's permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Unit support includes CNAs, a Receptionist/HUC, 24/7 Charge Nurse, Phlebotomy (peripheral draws only), IV/VAT Team, Resource Nurse (as available), 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, 24/7 Hospitalist, and 24/7 Intensivist
  • Orientation consists of a New Employee Orientation (NEO) followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; hours must be made up at the end of the contract if contracted hours are not met
  • Candidates who have held a permanent position at any AHSE facility must be separated for at least 1 year before being considered
  • First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
  • Scrubs: Navy required
  • Free parking available on site
