Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a short-term acute care hospital, requiring prior L&D travel experience and night shift availability.
Details
- Night shift position, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Labor & Delivery unit at a short-term acute care hospital delivering 200–300 births per month
- Patient population includes high-risk obstetric cases such as pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, placenta previa/abruptio, VBAC, multiple gestation, preterm labor, malpresentations, and uterine rupture
- Clinical skills utilized include external and internal fetal monitoring, IUPC placement and calibration, NST, reflex/edema/clonus assessments, and recognition and treatment of abnormal FHR patterns
- Medication administration includes Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, antihypertensives, insulin drips, prostaglandins, terbutaline, and opioids
- Procedures include vaginal delivery, cesarean section recovery, amnioinfusion, forceps/vacuum extraction, hemorrhage/shock management, and couplet care
- Neonatal responsibilities include APGAR scoring, neonatal resuscitation, newborn assessment, thermoregulation, newborn hypoglycemia management, and cord sample collection
- Charting performed in Cerner (experience required)
- May float to an affiliate hospital ED to provide OB-specific care alongside a primary RN — traveler does not take a primary assignment in that setting
- On first float shift to the affiliate hospital, nurses are asked to arrive 30 minutes early for a brief unit orientation
Requirements
- Active Indiana (IN) or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Nursing degree from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited institution required
- Minimum 1.5 years of L&D RN experience required; prior L&D travel experience required
- Required certifications: BLS (AHA or RQI accepted), NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring course
- Cerner EMR experience required
- 2 supervisor references required for consideration
- SSN and date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
- Indiana residents are considered local and are not eligible for this position
- Any former permanent or PRN employee of IU Health must have a 12-month gap before working as a traveler
- Current or past IU Health travelers who have accrued 12 months of travel employment within IU Health must take a consecutive break to reset eligibility: out-of-state residents require a 90-day break; in-state residents require a 180-day break
- Must be willing to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- RTO of 5 days or fewer may be auto-approved
- Hospital parking is complimentary
