Description

American Traveler is hiring a Labor & Delivery RN for a night shift assignment requiring at least 1.5 years of L&D travel experience and AWHONN Intermediate certification.

Details

• Work in the Labor and Delivery unit of a Short-Term Acute Care hospital
• Facility performs 200-300 births per month
• Night shift schedule of 4x12 hours (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
• 13-week assignment length
• May float to the Methodist Hospital ED to provide OB-specific care alongside a primary RN, without taking a primary assignment
• First shift at Methodist Hospital ED requires arriving 30 minutes early for unit orientation
• Cerner charting system used and experience required
• Patient ratio of 1:2

Requirements

• Active IN or Compact RN license required in hand prior to start date
• Minimum 1.5 years of RN experience required, including L&D travel experience
• Required certifications: BLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate course
• Preferred certifications: ACLS, AWHONN Beginner, AWHONN fetal monitoring or C-EFM
• Cerner charting experience required
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Experience with high-risk L&D conditions including pre-eclampsia, placenta previa, VBAC management, and malpresentations
• Skilled in fetal monitoring including EFM, internal fetal monitoring, and IUPC placement
• Experience administering Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, antihypertensives, and insulin drips
• Skilled in newborn care including APGAR scoring, neonatal resuscitation, and thermoregulation
• Nursing degree from a college or university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation
• Two supervisor references required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive L&D nursing care including antepartum, delivery, and postpartum management
• Assist with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, including forceps/vacuum extraction and C-section recovery
• Perform newborn assessments, cord care, and infant identification procedures
• Manage pain control including epidural anesthesia and PCA administration
• Care for patients with complex conditions such as diabetes mellitus, HELLP syndrome, and multiple gestation
• Floating required to hospital units or nearby affiliate hospitals
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO can be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local IN residents are not accepted for this position
• Any former IU Health permanent or PRN employee must have a 12-month break before applying as a traveler
• Current or past IU Health travelers with 12 months of accrued travel employment must take a designated consecutive break to reset eligibility (3 months for out-of-state residents, 6 months for in-state residents)
