Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg position requiring at least 2 years of experience, Cerner proficiency, and night shift availability including weekends.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit in a hospital setting (Unit 2E, 29 private beds)
• Patient population includes general Med/Surg, pneumonia, dialysis, palliative/hospice/end-of-life care, and low-volume inpatient chemotherapy
• Unit may house both COVID-positive ('dirty') and COVID-negative ('clean') patients simultaneously — candidates must be comfortable with this
• Patient ratio is 1:6–7
• Remote telemetry patients may be assigned; telemetry is monitored off-unit by a monitor tech — nurses are not required to read strips
• Drips include heparin and possibly morphine sulfate (comfort measures only); no cardiac drips
• Respiratory support (BiPAP, CPAP, High Flow) is managed by respiratory therapy
• No CNA support on night shift
• 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday) required, plus 2 Fridays per schedule block
• Floating limited to other Med/Surg units only
• Charting system: Cerner

Requirements

• Active PA RN license or compact RN license required; willing to wait for licensure
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• BSN not required
• Cerner EMR experience required
• Must be comfortable caring for both COVID-positive and COVID-negative patients on the same shift
• A copy of an unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
• Any hits or disciplinary actions on professional license must be disclosed

Additional Information

• Provide Med/Surg nursing care to a diverse patient population including medical, surgical, respiratory, and end-of-life patients
• Clinical Manager (Mon–Sat) serves as both charge nurse and nurse manager; nights are supported by a resource nurse who carries a full patient assignment
• Self-scheduling and blocked schedules are permitted as long as unit needs are met
• Orientation consists of 1 shift with a preceptor
• Holiday coverage is integrated into the permanent staff holiday rotation
• Navy blue scrubs required; jackets, if worn, must also be navy blue
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
• Two professional references are required for consideration: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference
• A skills checklist completed within the past year is required for consideration
