Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) position in Hermitage, TN, requiring a minimum of 2 years of PCU experience and active BLS and ACLS certifications.

Details

• Works in a Progressive Care / Clinical Decision Unit (PCU/CDU) within a hospital setting
• Unit operates across two cost centers with 34 beds in one and 25 beds in the other
• Patient ratios are 1:4 to 1:5 on days and 1:5 to 1:6 on nights
• Staffing support includes up to 3 techs on the larger unit and 2 techs on the smaller unit
• Equipment used includes BiPAPs, high-flow O2, Vapotherm, Alaris pumps, cardiac drips, heparin drips, insulin drips, peritoneal dialysis equipment, and wound vacs
• Documentation is performed in Meditech
• Schedule is three 12-hour day shifts per week (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
• Every other weekend is required
• Floating may be required between PCU units or to med-surg floors
• 8-week contract

Requirements

• Active RN license — TN state license or compact RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required for PCU RNs
• Minimum 2 years of recent PCU experience required
• Strong critical thinking skills required
• EKG rhythm interpretation experience required
• Experience with cardiac drips, insulin drips, and heparin drips required
• Experience with BiPAPs, high-flow O2, and multiple oxygen delivery systems required
• Peripheral IV skills required
• US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
• One professional reference required (two required if licensed in Florida or Missouri)

Additional Information

• Procedures performed on the unit include peritoneal dialysis, thoracentesis, paracentesis, chest tube insertions, Dobhoff/NG tube insertions, central line dressing changes, and wound vac troubleshooting
• Experience with stroke care and post-cardiac cath care is preferred
• Peritoneal dialysis experience is preferred
• Experience with tube feedings and NG/Dobhoff tubes is preferred
• Patient experience standards include hourly rounding on days, every-2-hour rounding on nights, and use of AIDET communication practices and communication boards
• Unit utilizes self-scheduling with 4-week schedule cycles
• Black scrubs are required
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
• No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
• Most travelers extend after their first assignment on this PCU unit
