Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Hermitage, TN, requiring at least 2 years of PCU experience, EKG rhythm interpretation, and cardiac drip management skills.

Details

• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a hospital setting, working across two PCU units (cost centers 630 and 633)
• Unit 630 has 34 beds and unit 633 has 25 beds
• Patient ratios are 1:4 to 1:5 on days and 1:5 to 1:6 on nights
• Unit is supported by nursing techs (3 techs when full on unit 630, 2 techs when full on unit 633)
• Equipment includes BiPAPs, high-flow O2, Vapotherm, Alaris pumps, and wound vacs
• Cardiac drips, heparin drips, insulin drips, and peritoneal dialysis are commonly managed on the unit
• Documentation is performed in Meditech
• Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, three 12-hour shifts per week
• Every other weekend is required
• Floating may occur between PCU units or to med-surg floors
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active RN license — TN license or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of start)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required for PCU RNs
• Minimum 2 years of recent PCU experience required
• Strong EKG rhythm interpretation skills required
• Experience managing cardiac drips, heparin drips, and insulin drips required
• Experience with BiPAPs, high-flow O2, and multiple oxygen delivery systems required
• Peripheral IV skills required
• Experience with stroke and post-cardiac cath care required
• US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
• One professional reference required (two required for candidates from Florida or Missouri)
• No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months

Additional Information

• Procedures performed on the unit include peritoneal dialysis, thoracentesis, paracentesis, chest tube insertions, NG/Dobhoff tube insertions, central line dressing changes, and wound vac troubleshooting
• Peritoneal dialysis experience is preferred but not required
• Experience with tube feedings and NG/Dobhoff tubes is preferred
• Patient experience expectations include hourly rounding on days, every 2-hour rounding on nights, and use of AIDET communication standards
• Unit uses self-scheduling on a 4-week schedule
• Black scrubs are required
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
• Most travelers extend their contract after their first assignment on this PCU
