Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience.

- 5E Surgical unit in a 241-licensed-bed, Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital
- 32-bed unit with an average census of 28
- Patient population includes total joint replacements, colon resections, gallbladder, appendectomy, amputations, hip fractures, small bowel obstruction (SBO), and medical overflow
- Day shift RN patient ratios are 1:4-6; night shift 1:5-6, with surge ratios up to 1:7-8
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (badge in 6:45 AM), 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Low census call is possible; callback possible up to 3:00 PM for day shift
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Floating required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) per scope of practice
- EMR: Epic
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone), wound care, drain/tube management, PIV starts, and central line management
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Must be separated from any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before being considered

- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- A clinical interview with the unit manager is required as part of the selection process
- Support staff includes CNAs, a receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy team, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), intensivist (24/7), and telemetry monitoring techs
- Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Schedules are posted on a 6-week cycle
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; any hours not met must be added to the end of the contract
- Floating between facilities mid-shift is compensated for travel time
- Required scrub color: navy
- Free parking is available on-site
