Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience.

Details

  • Work in a 32-bed surgical unit with an average census of 28 patients
  • Patient population includes total joint replacements, colon resections, cholecystectomies, appendectomies, amputations, hip fractures, small bowel obstructions (SBO), and medical overflow
  • Daytime RN patient ratio is 1:4-6; nighttime is 1:5-6, with surge ratios potentially reaching 1:7-8
  • 12-hour day shift, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • Low census call is possible; callback required up to 3:00 PM for day shift
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Floating is required within Region 3, which includes Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division facilities — candidates who are not agreeable to floating should not apply
  • EMR: Epic (experience required)
  • IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips

Requirements

  • Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone), wound care, drain/tube management, PIV starts, and central line management
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum of one professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
  • Orientation includes hospital new employee orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Schedules are set on a 6-week cycle
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays
  • Department support includes CNAs, a unit receptionist/HUC, charge nurses, a dedicated phlebotomy team, an IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalists (24/7), intensivists (24/7), and telemetry monitoring techs
  • Navy scrubs are required
  • Free parking is available on site
  • A manager interview is required as part of the hiring process

I couldn’t have asked for a better experience for my first travel assignment. American Traveler has made the entire process feel easy from start to finish.
