Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced NICU RN for a Level IV Neonatal ICU position at an academic medical center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring a minimum of 2 years of NICU experience and an active NC or compact RN license.
Details
- Level IV NICU within a large academic medical center and Level 1 Trauma hospital with 885 adult and 196 pediatric licensed beds
- Cares for infants ranging from 23 weeks gestational age through term, with varying levels of acuity including surgical patients
- Common diagnoses and conditions include necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), and other surgical needs
- Average daily census of 71 patients
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
- Every-other-weekend rotation required
- No on-call or call-back responsibilities
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Floating may be required to General Pediatrics, PICU, Adolescent Pediatrics, and Pediatric Hem/Onc
- EMR: Epic
Requirements
- Active RN license — NC or compact state license required
- Current certifications: BLS and NRP
- Minimum 2 years of NICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Academic medical center or teaching hospital experience preferred given the facility type
- Proficiency in basic ventilator management, central line management, and pre/post-surgical care
- Experience with tracheostomy management, G-tube management, and blood transfusion administration
- Infant venous stick skills required
- Breastfeeding support, bottle feeding, and gavage feeding management skills required
- At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the past year required for consideration
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- Fast-paced NICU environment providing care to a high-acuity neonatal population
- Unit support includes nursing assistants at a 1:20 ratio and 2 Charge RNs per shift
- Orientation consists of a NEO program plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Scheduling is managed on a 6-week cycle; RTO requires Resource Team approval
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Free parking is available on-site
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
