Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position in Rochester, NY, requiring at least 1 year of experience and mandatory phlebotomy and IV placement competency.

Details

• Med/Surg Telemetry unit in a hospital setting
• Patient population includes cardiovascular and wound care diagnoses
• Day/evening nurse-to-patient ratio is 5:1 (with stretch to 6-7); night ratio is 6-7:1 (with stretch to 8-10 in the event of call-outs)
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required to MS, ICU, and ED — float assignments are limited to Med/Surg-level patient care or support roles; RNs will not be asked to practice outside their scope
• PCTs are present on all units and handle vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and ADLs
• Epic EMR experience preferred

Requirements

• Active NY RN license required (no pending licenses accepted)
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg Telemetry experience required
• Mandatory phlebotomy and peripheral IV placement competency required
• Skills required: telemetry interpretation and dysrhythmia management, rapid response team activation, IV therapy and peripheral line care/management, respiratory support (nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable O2, non-invasive airway management), and isolation precautions
• Experience with Hoyer lifts and wound VAC preferred
• 2 professional supervisory references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
• Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration

Additional Information

• 13-week contract assignment
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible — local candidates are not accepted
• RTO requests should be limited to approximately 1 week per contract; all time-off requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration
• Block scheduling will be accommodated when possible, but is not guaranteed
• Orientation consists of pre-start modules, a 4-hour classroom session with an educator, followed by on-unit orientation for the remainder of the shift
• Scrub color requirement: navy blue and/or white
