Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift travel contract in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and TNCC certification.

Details

  • Mixed ICU setting with 39 beds divided into pods: MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU
  • Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases — diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma
  • Cardiac experience preferred, particularly CABG/TAVR post-op (24–48 hrs); fresh open heart cases are not assigned to travelers unless experienced and approved
  • Patient ratios are 1:1 or 1:2, with 1:3 occurring rarely based on acuity
  • Epic EMR required; Alaris pumps in use (transitioning to Baxter pumps)
  • Alaris and Omnicell also used on the unit
  • 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation (not guaranteed)
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating is uncommon but possible to adult floors including Med/Surg/Tele at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed

Requirements

  • Active RN license — SD state license or compact license required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience (candidates with 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant non-ICU RN experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis)
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
  • Experience with hemodynamic lines, mechanical ventilation management, proning, and telemetry monitoring
  • Impella, IABP, and CRRT experience strongly preferred
  • 2 professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
  • DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
  • First-time travelers are not accepted — a minimum of one prior completed travel assignment is required
  • Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning in a travel capacity
  • Orientation consists of one 12-hour shift and one 8-hour shift on the ICU, plus a hospital orientation
  • Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit, a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, phlebotomy (peripheral draws only), ICU charge RNs for midline placement, respiratory therapy available 24/7, and a robust physician/APP presence
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Free parking available on-site
  • May occasionally be asked to precept nursing students
  • No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved, provided the full 13-week contract can be accommodated
