Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift travel contract at a hospital in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 1.5–2 years of ICU experience and TNCC certification.

Details

• Mixed ICU unit with 39 beds divided into pods: MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU
• Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases; diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma
• Cardiac experience preferred (CABG/TAVR, 24–48 hrs post-op); fresh open heart cases are not assigned to travelers unless experienced
• Patient ratios are 1:1, 1:2, or rarely 1:3, based on acuity
• Charting via Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter) and Omnicell also in use
• 12-hour night shifts at 48 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation (not guaranteed)
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating is uncommon but possible to adult floors including Med/Surg/Tele at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed

Requirements

• Active RN license — SD or Compact state license required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)
• Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience; candidates with 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant RN experience outside of ICU may be considered on a case-by-case basis
• Epic EMR experience required
• Proficiency with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; hemodynamic lines; proning; ventilator management; and telemetry
• Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
• At least one prior travel assignment required; first-time travelers will not be considered
• Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
• 2 professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
• DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include providing critical care to a high-acuity, mixed ICU population and may include precepting students
• Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), phlebotomy for peripheral draws, RT available 24/7, and intensivist/APP coverage around the clock
• Orientation consists of hospital orientation, one 8-hour department orientation with iLearns, one 4-hour iLearns session, and two 12-hour floor orientation shifts
• No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first three weeks of August); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise, with extensions required to complete the full 13-week contract
