Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a mixed ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification.

Details

• Mixed ICU setting with 39 beds divided into pods: MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU — travelers would not float to the CVICU side unless experienced in that specialty
• Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases with diagnoses such as ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma
• Cardiac experience preferred, particularly CABG/TAVR 24–48 hrs post-op; fresh open heart cases are generally assigned to permanent staff
• Patient ratios are acuity-dependent: 1:1, 1:2, or rarely 1:3
• Charting via Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter pumps) and Omnicell also in use
• 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation (not guaranteed)
• Floating is uncommon but possible to any adult floor, including Med/Surg or Tele, at a 1:4 ratio
• No on-call requirements

Requirements

• Active RN license — South Dakota (SD) or Compact license required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience excluding travel experience strongly preferred; candidates with at least 1.5 years of ICU experience (excluding travel) plus significant RN experience outside the ICU may be considered on a case-by-case basis
• Epic EMR experience required
• Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; hemodynamic lines; proning; ventilator management; and telemetry
• Impella, IABP, and CRRT experience strongly preferred
• Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
• Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
• DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provides critical care nursing to a high-acuity, trauma-heavy patient population across surgical, medical, cardiac, and neuro specialties
• Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, phlebotomy (peripheral draws only), and ICU charge RNs for midline placement
• Intensivist coverage includes 3 on days and 2 on nights, with an APP also present on nights
• Orientation includes a hospital orientation, one 8-hour department orientation with iLearns, one 4-hour iLearns session, and two 12-hour floor orientation shifts
• May be expected to precept nursing students
• No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise, with extensions required to fulfill contract length
