Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a mixed ICU position requiring at least 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification, working 12-hour night shifts at 48 hours per week.

- Mixed ICU setting divided into pods: MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU across a 39-bed unit
- Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases; diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma
- Heavy trauma population with a strong cardiac component; CABG/TAVR post-op experience (24–48 hrs) is preferred but not required
- Patient ratios are acuity-dependent: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 (rare)
- 12-hour night shifts at 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation is the goal, though not guaranteed
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating is uncommon but possible to adult floors including Med/Surg or Tele at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed
- EMR: Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter by October); Omnicell
Requirements
- Active RN license — South Dakota (SD) or Compact license required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start if not already held)
- Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience; candidates with 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant RN experience outside of ICU may be considered
- Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; hemodynamic lines; proning; ventilator management; and telemetry monitoring
- Impella, IABP, and CRRT experience strongly preferred
- Comfort working a 48-hour/week schedule is required — this is non-negotiable for this unit
- Graduation from a board-of-nursing approved nursing education program
- Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- First-time travelers will not be considered — a minimum of one prior travel assignment is required
- Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
- Former permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler
- Travelers will not be floated to the CVICU side unless they have specific experience in that specialty
- Fresh open-heart cases are not assigned to travelers unless the facility has established comfort with the individual's skill level
- Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, and intensivist and APP coverage around the clock
- Orientation consists of hospital orientation, one 8-hour department orientation session, one 4-hour iLearns completion session, and two 12-hour floor orientation shifts
- RTO of up to 7 days may be approved, but the contract must be extended to accommodate a full 13-week assignment
- No RTO will be approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)
- Travelers may be expected to precept nursing students
- Required scrub color: Navy
