Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Post Surgical Care Med/Surg Tele position at a Level III Trauma Teaching Hospital in Concord, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a night shift schedule.

- Post Surgical Care unit in a 457-bed Level III Trauma Teaching Hospital with designations including Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center of Excellence, and Bariatric Center of Excellence
- 32-bed unit serving a post-surgical patient population including small bowel obstructions, general surgery (colectomy, colon/small bowel resections, nephrectomy, hysterectomy, mastectomy, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, hernia repairs, splenectomy, thyroidectomy), kidney stones, pneumothorax, bariatric surgery, rib fractures, hip fractures, joint replacements, and cellulitis
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6, with potential surge ratios of 1:7–8
- 12-hour night shifts (1900–0700), 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required throughout Region 1, which includes Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH – peds only); candidates unwilling to float to all facilities within the region should not apply
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- Equipment includes BD Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Masimo monitors, and remote telemetry monitoring
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in tracheostomy care, chest tube management, PIV starts, NG tubes, ostomy care, wound care, drain management, continuous bladder irrigation, tube feeds, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Must provide last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth for consideration
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside 50+ miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
- Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Unit support includes NA+ CNAs (4 per shift), 24/7 charge nurse coverage, 24/7 phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist; resource nurse available based on staffing
- Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; unmet contracted hours must be made up by extending the contract
- Schedule is posted in 6-week cycles
- Scrubs: Navy required
