Description
American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with critical care experience for a day shift position at a high-volume Level I Trauma Center in Roanoke, VA.
Details
- 703-bed acute care academic teaching hospital with a Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatric) and Magnet-designated nursing excellence
- Unit serves adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients across high-acuity areas including neurotrauma, cardiovascular services, and medical/surgical ICU
- Patient ratio of 1:25
- Equipment includes Servo I, Servo U, V-60 BiPAP, Optiflow heated high flow, iNOvent, and LTV1200
- Robust Assess and Treat protocol in place, including ventilator management and liberation policy
- Epic EMR experience required
- Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM; 4x12 schedule available upon request
- 13-week contract
- Weekend requirement of every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
- Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract
- Floating within skillset is required
Requirements
- RRT credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required; CRT not accepted
- VA Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner required; other state licenses accepted with the requirement to obtain a 90-day temporary authorization while a permanent VA license is processed
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of experience in critical care, including high-volume ER and Level I Trauma Center environments
- Experience with neurotrauma, cardiovascular, and medical/surgical ICU patient populations
- Proficiency with aerosol and medication delivery systems and a broad range of inhaled medications (e.g., Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, inhaled Flolan, racemic epinephrine)
- Competency in ABG interpretation and ventilator management, including BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, high-pressure alarm troubleshooting, and ventilator weaning
- Airway management skills including extubation, oral/nasal airway placement, suctioning, sputum collection, and tracheostomy care
- Proficiency in oxygen therapy and nebulizer setups (handheld, T-piece, trach collar, ultrasonic)
- Copy of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
- Two professional references required for consideration
- License required if applicable
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are accepted; 1 year of travel experience is preferred

- All RTO, block scheduling, and special scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of application
- The facility reserves the right to call off 1 shift per 2-week period
