Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ED RN for a Level III Trauma Center in Puyallup, WA, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and recent Epic proficiency.
Details
- Emergency Department (ED) at a 375-bed Level III Trauma Center in Puyallup, WA
- 46-bed ED including 5 safe psych rooms and a Fast Track area averaging approximately 200 patients per day
- High-acuity patient population spanning pediatrics to geriatrics, including trauma, GSW, STEMI, stroke (TNK), sepsis, DKA, respiratory, mental health, and adult psych cases
- High geriatric volume with a focus on falls and STEMI; pediatric patients are generally transferred out
- No invasive neuro procedures (e.g., craniotomies) performed in this unit
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5, with flexibility to 5 based on acuity and staffing
- 12-hour mid/night shifts with start times of 1500 or 1900
- Shifts are typically scheduled in week-long blocks on a consistent shift, though this is subject to change
- Schedule provided approximately 3 weeks at a time
- Weekend shifts vary based on unit needs
- No on-call or floating requirements
- Charting via Epic (recent experience required); equipment includes Alaris pumps, Pyxis, and central/bedside telemetry monitoring at the nursing station (no tele tech)
Requirements
- Active WA state RN license or a compact RN license currently recognized in WA
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS, and CPI/MOAB
- Minimum 2 years of ED experience required
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV skills, procedural sedation, blood administration, and ED medication/drip administration
- Recent Epic EMR experience required
- TNK administration experience preferred
- Traveler Telemetry Competency exam must be completed and passed prior to start
- At least one supervisor-level reference (Charge Nurse, Manager, Director, or above) required; a second reference must be provided prior to start
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Orientation includes a first day covering badge setup, Epic training (if needed), time with the ED educator, and hours in the mental health and front-of-house areas, followed by a full 12-hour precepted shift on the assigned shift on day two
- Strong unit support structure includes ER techs, a charge nurse, resource/float nurse, RT (24/7), ED educator, house supervisor (24/7), social work (24/7), pharmacy (24/7), and dedicated 24/7 security
- Holiday coverage required for 2 of 5 major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day
- RTO must be approved by the nurse manager
- Any color scrubs are acceptable as long as they are professional in appearance; modest piercings (studs only) and non-offensive tattoos are permitted
- Free parking available in designated areas
