Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a Critical Care Unit (ICU) position requiring prior travel experience, Epic proficiency, and the ability to manage high-acuity patients on night shifts.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting in a 24-bed Critical Care Unit (CCU/ICU)
  • Night shift, 12-hour shifts (7am start time, nights), three 12s per week
  • Patient ratios are 1:2 or 1:1 based on acuity; IMCU ratios are 1:3 days and 1:4 nights
  • Floating may be required to telemetry or IMCU, where ratios can be up to 1:5
  • Every other weekend required
  • Every other holiday required
  • Common diagnoses include CVA/TPA, AAA, MI, hypertension, overdose, ETOH/detox (Precedex), Whipple procedures, GI bleed, ECOS, external temporary pacers, A-fib RVR, and septic shock
  • High-acuity patient population includes individuals experiencing homelessness, substance abuse, and mental health challenges
  • All drips are titrated; nurses must be able to read and interpret cardiac monitor strips (Philips IntelliVue in all rooms)
  • Ventilator management involves Avea vents (RT-based in ICU) and BiPAP in IMCU
  • Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 and centered out of the CCU; RT performs EKGs and ABGs (nurses may also draw ABGs)
  • Hospitalist coverage is available in-house 24/7
  • IV Team available 7am–8:30pm; nurses must attempt IV access first; Nurse Resource available 24/7 for IV support 7pm–7am
  • Pharmacy is on the unit during daytime hours
  • Charge nurse present; typically not assigned a patient load
  • Nurse aides available at a 1:8 ratio
  • Smart room technology and ceiling lifts are in use
  • EMR: Epic (experience required)
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active CT or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU/critical care nursing experience
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Ability to read and interpret cardiac monitor strips
  • Must be able to work every other weekend and assigned holidays

Additional Information

  • Unit orientation consists of 2 shifts (8 orientation hours total)
  • Strong teamwork, flexibility, empathy, and customer service skills are essential given the high-acuity and vulnerable patient population
  • No RTO (requested time off) within the first two weeks of the assignment start date; minimal RTO throughout the contract
  • Scrub color requirement: Caribbean blue uniform top layer (black or white shirts may be worn underneath); pants may be Caribbean blue or black
  • Candidates must not be working another job concurrently with this assignment
