Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Float Pool - Telemetry position at an acute care facility in West Virginia, requiring 5 years of experience and the ability to float across multiple units of varying acuity.
Details
- Acute care hospital float pool position covering multiple units including CCU, IMC, Medical-Surgical (Levels 7 & 8), Skilled Care, and ED
- Patient population includes diagnoses such as NSTEMI, pneumonia, sepsis, diabetes, heart disease, and diverticulitis
- Patient ratios vary by unit: CCU 1:2-3, IMC 1:4-6, MS Level 7 1:5-6, MS Level 8 1:5-8, Skilled Care 1:8-10
- Nurse aides/PCTs available with ratios of 1:7-15, assisting with ADLs, vitals, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, and blood sugars
- Charge nurse present on each shift and may take an assignment as needed
- Monitor techs available 24/7; RNs are expected to read and interpret telemetry, print strips, perform measurements, and identify rhythms
- RT is assigned across multiple units and manages respiratory equipment (vents, trachs, BiPAP, CPAP, Airvo); RNs are expected to troubleshoot equipment
- RNs working in CCU or ED are required to titrate drips, including Heparin and all critical drips
- Charting via Cerner EMR
- 12-hour day shifts, three shifts per week, with every other weekend required
- Self-scheduling with 4-week schedule blocks; travelers submit ideal schedule but must remain flexible to fill staffing gaps
- Unit assignments communicated via text message within 2 hours prior to shift start
- Float assignments will not include ED or CCU unless within the traveler's skillset
- May be included in holiday rotation, split between Group A and Group B
- No on-call or standby requirement
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; ACLS especially required when working in CCU or ED
- Minimum 5 years of RN experience required
- 1 year of ICU or ED experience preferred; ideal candidate is an ICU/Stepdown traveler comfortable floating to lower acuity units
- Must be comfortable with patient ratios ranging from 1:2 to 1:10 across varying unit types
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips independently
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- A copy of a valid, unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
- 2 references required: 1 supervisor reference (from a permanent facility if worked perm in the last 12 months) and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference
- Skills checklist completed within the past year required
- Copies of all current certifications required
Additional Information
- Travelers will receive 1 day of general orientation and 1 day with a preceptor, oriented to one unit before working independently
- Travelers are expected to be flexible, adaptable, and possess multi-functional expertise and strong problem-solving skills
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being eligible to return; cumulative time at WVU facilities applies, and travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one continuous year
- All candidates interview directly with a unit manager
- Work history covering the past 7 years (or from graduation, whichever is less) with no gaps greater than 30 days is required; each position should include hospital size, unit size, trauma level, and whether it was a teaching facility
