Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU (CVPICU) position requiring 2+ years of PICU critical care experience and at least 1 year of cardiac experience, working night shifts at a premier pediatric facility in NJ.
Details
- 19-bed CVPICU unit caring for infants, adolescents, and pediatric patients
- Patient population includes complex congenital heart disease, post-cardiac surgery, cardiac transplant, and a wide range of critical pediatric cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2 or more depending on census, acuity, and staffing
- Specialized procedures include care for congenital heart defects (ASD, VSD, AV Canal Defect, TOF), Glenn and Fontan procedures, valve replacements, cardiac catheterization and ablation recovery, hemodynamic monitoring, and dysrhythmia management
- Additional specialty procedures include peritoneal dialysis, pre/post hemodialysis, lumbar puncture assistance, hydrocephalus/VP shunt care, chemotherapy monitoring, and isolation precautions
- Respiratory management includes ventilator care, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, ETCO2 monitoring, chest tube and intubation assistance, suctioning, and tracheostomy care
- IV therapy responsibilities include port access, blood product administration, central line care, PICC management, and TPN/lipids
- Epic EMR — experience required
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
- Every other weekend required
- Must work 1 of 2 or 2 of 3 holidays per unit needs
- Floating may be required to Pediatrics or NICU for appropriate assignments within the candidate's skillset
Requirements
- Active NJ RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Required certifications: BLS and PALS; NRP preferred
- Minimum 2 years of PICU critical care experience required (hard requirement)
- Minimum 1 year of cardiac experience required (hard requirement); both must be documented on a skills checklist
- Proficiency in cardiac/PICU skills including hemodynamic monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, telemetry, and Medtronic pacemakers
- Experience with pediatric medication administration including vasopressors, antiarrhythmics, anti-seizure medications, insulin, and pediatric dosage calculations using the Broselow system
- Epic EMR experience required
- SSN and DOB required for consideration
- Two current professional references required for consideration
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Former RWJBarnabas Health (RWJBH) staff (full-time or PRN) must have been separated from the health system for a minimum of 1 year before being eligible for a travel assignment

- The unit supports advanced interventions including ECMO, nitric oxide therapy, and VAD support for complex heart disease
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Local candidates are accepted
- RTO and scheduling requests must be submitted prior to offer; no requests will be approved after an offer is made
- The facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period
