Description

American Traveler is seeking an ECMO-trained RN Specialist for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring a minimum of 2 years of ECMO circuit management experience and Epic EMR proficiency.

Details

  • Position is based in a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) at a teaching hospital setting
  • Patient population includes complex cardiovascular cases such as ECMO, CABG, heart transplant, LVAD/RVAD, IABP, Impella, TAVR, and post-cardiac surgery patients
  • Nurse-driven ECMO protocols are in place; specialist is responsible for circuit management
  • Patient ratio is 1:2
  • Floating to other units and/or campuses may be required based on census needs; float assignments will only include units for which competencies have been demonstrated
  • Schedule is nights, 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
  • Epic EMR is used; minimum 1 year of Epic experience is required
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active RN license in South Carolina or a Compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Preferred certifications: CES-A or E-AEC, and LVAD
  • Minimum 2 years of ECMO Specialist experience with circuit management required
  • 3 or more years of CVICU/ICU experience preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of Epic EMR experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred; Trauma Level I experience preferred
  • RN ECMO Specialists only — Respiratory Therapy and Perfusion ECMO Specialists will not be considered
  • Required skills include: arterial line management, central line care, CVP monitoring, PA/Swan-Ganz monitoring, management of vasoactive and cardiac drips, ventilator management, CVVHD/CRRT, interpretation of ABGs and dysrhythmias, and ACT/PT/PTT lab monitoring
  • Driver's license and Social Security Number required for consideration
  • Two professional references required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include ECMO circuit management, hemodynamic monitoring, care of post-cardiac surgery patients, and management of patients on mechanical circulatory support devices
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from all system facilities to be eligible; as an Adult ICU position, candidates must be at least 50 miles from the relevant flagship hospital — those under 50 miles are ineligible
  • Pre-assignment testing and online modules must be completed within 48 hours of receiving login credentials, prior to the start of the assignment; modules are completed annually
  • Orientation is held every Monday
  • Travelers who have completed three consecutive 13-week contracts (39 weeks) with this health system must either convert to employee status or take a minimum six-month break before returning as a traveler
