Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Transfer Center (Clinical) position in the Sacramento, CA area, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU, ED, or transfer center experience and strong critical care assessment skills.
Details
- Located in an acute care hospital setting within the Transfer Center - Clinical unit
- This is a remote, phone-based coordination role with zero hands-on patient care
- Average caseload of 12 cases per shift, with 10–15 cases active at one time
- Cases involve facilitating patient transfers from hospitals both within and outside of the health system, covering any patient type
- Primary EMR is Cerner; additional systems include TeleTracking (bed management) and Tiger Connect (physician/specialist communication)
- Cerner experience is required; Epic experience is also accepted
- 12-hour night shifts, every other weekend required
- Must be available to be scheduled any day of the week
- Holiday coverage required based on scheduling needs
- No floating required
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Required certifications (all must be active, AHA-issued): BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum of 2 years of ICU, ED, or transfer center experience required
- Acute care experience required
- Strong critical care assessment skills and sound clinical judgment required
- Proficiency with multiple computer applications required — must be comfortable with Cerner, TeleTracking, Tiger Connect, and Google Suite
- Strong typing skills required
- Must be professional, customer-service oriented, able to multitask, and a quick learner
- A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include facilitating patient transfers by locating accepting physicians and specialists, requesting appropriate bed placement, and managing clinical assessments and patient reports after intake
- A two-step interview process is required: an initial clinical pre-screen followed by a manager interview
- A Relias Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam must be passed prior to offer acceptance; candidates have two attempts
- On the first day of orientation, a pass/fail skills test on sterile technique (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) is administered
- Orientation consists of 1 day of general hospital orientation plus 3–5 days of department-specific training, which may be conducted on any shift
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; those who worked PRN through an outside staffing firm may be considered
- RTO is very limited and rarely accommodated
- Scrubs in any clean, professional color are acceptable; business casual attire including clean jeans (no rips or tears) and plain hoodies is also permitted
- Free onsite parking and 4 hours of free EV charging available
