Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring Epic proficiency, active MI licensure, and a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience.
Details
- Labor & Delivery unit with 17 beds and 17 rooms in a hospital setting
- Facility delivers 200–300+ births per month
- Patient population includes neonates, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
- Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines: 1:1 for laboring patients, 1:3 couplet care, 1:3 Mother/Baby, triage, and special care nursery
- Unit includes a special care nursery for stabilization and transfer; Mag drips are initiated and patients are transferred to Toledo
- Patient diagnoses include C-sections (scrub and circulate), vaginal deliveries, operative vaginal births, antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum care, newborn care, D&C, fetal monitoring, FSE, IUPC, and RAM cannula
- Medication system: Pyxis
- Epic EMR required
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 18:45–07:15
- Every other weekend required
- Floating to Hickman unit as needed
- Provider coverage includes CRNA, Anesthesiologist, CNM, MD, Fellow, and Hospitalist (Family Practice/Medical)
- Support services available include interpretation, pharmacy, phlebotomy, physical therapy, radiology, rapid response team, respiratory services, social services, transportation, and unit secretary (no HUC on nights)
Requirements
- Active MI RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NRP
- Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery RN experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Experience in antepartum, LDRP, Mother/Baby, and Level I Nursery settings required
- Community-level hospital experience required
- Proficiency in external fetal monitoring (EFM) and recognition/treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Experience with high-acuity OB conditions including pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, placenta previa/abruptio, uterine rupture, VBAC management, preterm labor, PROM, multiple gestation, malpresentations, and substance abuse
- Experience with antepartum procedures including NST, sterile vaginal exams, reflex/edema/clonus assessment, and OB triage
- Experience circulating for C-sections and assisting with vaginal deliveries and high-risk deliveries
- Proficiency with IV therapy including blood/blood product administration, peripheral IV placement, and infusion pump management
- Experience administering OB medications including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, antihypertensives, prostaglandins, and terbutaline
- Neonatal resuscitation experience including APGAR scoring, radiant warmer use, and thermoregulation
- Newborn care skills including assessment, phototherapy, metabolic screening, NAS management, and newborn hypoglycemia
- Postpartum care experience including hemorrhage management, couplet care, breastfeeding/lactation support, and wound care
- Surgical procedure experience: cervical cerclage, D&C, and tubal ligation
