Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at an academic medical center, requiring active NC or compact RN licensure and at least 1 year of relevant experience.

Details

  • Work in the Med/Surg Overflow unit (4A) of a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center
  • 8-bed unit with an average daily census of 8 patients
  • Patient population includes general medical cases with some cardiac, pneumonia, UTI, chest pain, and fluid overload diagnoses
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4 and CNA to patient ratio of 1:8
  • Utilizes telemetry monitoring on the unit, with RNs responsible for reading and interpreting cardiac rhythm strips
  • EMR: Epic
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Medication dispensing via Omnicell
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0700), 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation: every other weekend
  • Floating required to Rehab, 4 Ardmore, 10 Reynolds, 9 Reynolds, 5 Ardmore, Burn-10 North, and Throughput Unit
  • No on-call or call-back requirements

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 1 year of core work experience in Med/Surg Tele, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Travel experience preferred
  • Skills required: PCA management, surgical drain care, wound care, telemetry and cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Comfort or experience with Cardizem/Amiodarone drips preferred, willingness to learn required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • One professional reference dated within the last year required, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

  • Provide direct nursing care in a fast-paced academic medical center known for its friendly, collaborative unit culture
  • Support team includes CNAs for vitals and ADLs, a receptionist/HUC, and a largely free-floating charge nurse
  • Phlebotomy support available for peripheral blood draws; RNs are responsible for starting their own IVs
  • Respiratory therapy available 24/7 via page as needed
  • Hospitalist and intensivist coverage available 24/7
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Royal blue scrubs required
  • Free on-site parking available
  • Travelers must work 75% of holidays
  • Clinical interview required prior to placement
  • Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible
  • Former employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before being eligible to return
