Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center, requiring 1 year of experience and NC or compact RN licensure.
Details
- Work on a Medical/Surgical Overflow unit (4A) within an academic medical center
- 8-bed unit with an average daily census of 8 patients
- Patient population includes general medical cases along with cardiac, pneumonia, UTI, chest pain, and fluid overload diagnoses
- RN to patient ratio of 1:4 and CNA to patient ratio of 1:8
- Telemetry monitors are used on the unit; RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting cardiac rhythm strips during their shift
- No cardiac monitors are located in patient rooms
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing systems
- 12-hour day shifts scheduled from 0700-1900, totaling 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend (EOW) rotation required
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Floating required to Rehab, 4 Ardmore, 10 Reynolds, 9 Reynolds, 5 Ardmore, Burn-10 North, and Throughput Unit
- 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, Hospitalist, and Intensivist support available
- Peripheral blood draws performed by phlebotomy team; RNs start their own IVs
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of recent core Med/Surg Tele experience required within the last year
- Experience with PCA management, surgical drains, wound care, and telemetry/cardiac rhythm interpretation required
- Cardizem/Amiodarone drip experience preferred but not required if willing to learn
- Epic EMR experience required
- Travel experience preferred
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Provide direct medical/surgical and telemetry nursing care including wound care, PCA management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Work alongside CNA support for vital signs, blood glucose checks, hourly safety rounds, and ADLs
- Charge nurse is typically free-floating with occasional full patient assignments
- Unit is supported by a receptionist/HUC
- Clinical interviewing required prior to placement
- Travelers will be required to work 75% of holidays
- Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Scrub color required: Royal Blue
- Free parking available
- Unit culture is described as friendly and reflective of an academic medical center environment
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
- Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position
